A Healing Service at Graystone Church?

Graystone Sign B&W

Several years ago when Graystone Church was a small church plant of a few hundred people in a rented warehouse space, God laid it on my heart to have a “Healing Service” at Graystone Church.  We were studying through the book of Acts on Sunday mornings, and I kept reading over and over again stories of God healing people.  I believe that God still does miracles today as He did in Biblical times.

I remember sharing with the elders at the time that God was laying it on my heart to have a “Healing Service” at Graystone.  They thought I was crazy.  They also didn’t like the name “Healing Service”, because they thought it sounded crazy and people in the community would think we were crazy.  Well, I really didn’t know what else to call it.

I’ll never forget that day in the old warehouse when Graystone Church had a “Healing Service”. We invited people down front who wanted us to pray for them to be healed.  To our surprise, MANY people came down front for prayer.  And on that day through the power of the Holy Spirit, God healed people.

Maci Wilson, a baby or toddler at the time, was healed of benign paroxysmal torticollis (seizure like symptoms). Toby Barwick was healed of an alcohol addiction.  He has not had a drop of alcohol since, has served as a church elder and leads our Men’s Recovery Small Group.  A man, I think it was Charles Dudish, was healed of a back injury.  I had people come up to me years later and tell me that they were healed of something that day…people who didn’t even come down front but through a general prayer I prayed for the entire church.  I know all this might sound crazy to some of you.  But God did it that day.  I’m getting tears in my eyes writing about it. PRAISE GOD!  God still performs miracles!

We haven’t had a “Healing Service” at Graystone since that day.  Well, God has laid it on my heart to have one this Sunday.  We are not calling it a “Healing Service” but that is what it is.  We are going to have a time at the end of the service for anyone to come down front and have the pastors and elders of the church lay hands on them and pray for them. It will be nothing kooky or weird.  We are simply going to trust God at His word.  God calls us as a church to pray for the sick.  We believe the Bible to be true. We believe in the power of prayer.  We believe God still performs miracles.

Will you begin praying with me right now?  Pray that God will move at Graystone Church this Sunday like he did 7 years ago.  Pray for our hearts to be prepared.  Pray for people to be healed physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually, and relationally.  Pray for people to be healed from drug, alcohol and sex addictions.  Pray for people to be healed from cancer and other illnesses.  Pray for people to be healed from injuries.

Let’s pray that our church has the faith to believe. “I do believe.  Help my unbelief (Mark 9:24).”  Let’s come prayed up and prepared for God to move in and through Graystone Church.

Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:14-16
