I’ve been thinking and praying all week about “empty jars”. I hope the story in 2 Kings 4:1-7 was challenging to you. If you missed the video teaching in my message Sunday, you can watch the 5 minute clip here: The Principle of the Empty Jars.
The part of the story I am thinking about today is that Elisha told the widow and her two boys to go out in the the town and collect as many empty jars as they could. This family was in need, and they asked everyone to pitch in and help out. And because so many people donated their empty jars, God did a miracle, saved the boys from slavery, and provided for their family for the rest of their lives.
We have an opportunity at Christmas time to give above and beyond to meet some big needs in our church, community and around the world. If EVERYONE at Graystone (from 2 year olds to 92 years old) brought their “empty jars” on December 16 in the form of a Special Christmas Offering, there is no telling how much blessing God would pour out from Heaven. Wow! I can’t even imagine how God would move if every single person pitched in and gave an “empty jar”.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
