As I shared in my message on Sunday, Is America going to Hell?, we now live in a Post-Christian America. How do we live out the Christian life in a secular world? We are to live “in the world” but not “of this world”. This is a really difficult task, because we have been called out of the darkness into His light (1 Peter 2:9), but we still live every day in the middle of an evil, sinful world.
We are citizens of two kingdoms, an earthly one and an eternal one (Philippians 3:20). On the one hand, we are to become all things to all men that we might save some (1 Corinthians 9:22-23). And on the other hand, we are to live as aliens and strangers in the world ( 1 Peter 2:11). How do we do it? How do we not conform to the pattern of this world (Romans 12:2) but not isolate ourselves from it?
I believe one of the keys is having strong Biblical convictions and sticking to them. We don’t need to remove ourselves from the world, but we need to live such good lives that it draws people to Christ (1 Peter 2:12). We need to follow the example of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the book of Daniel.
Who are the Daniels of America?
Who are the Shadrachs, Meshachs, and Abednegos of our day?
I’ll share tomorrow how to develop Biblical convictions.
