3 Prayers That I Pray Every Day

Over the last year or so God has been impressing on my heart to pray more and better…bolder and more specific.  Honestly, I feel like I pray all the time and at the same time, I feel like I do not pray enough.  It’s definitely a daily tension in my life.

The Graystone Church elders and I recently read The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson.  In the book he challenges you to pray BIG BOLD PRAYERS for God.  Well, we have been putting it into practice.  We are trusting God for a $2 million (It might be $3 million now?) miracle gift as well as other BHAPs (Big Hairy Audacious Prayers).  Although, I am praying bigger, bolder prayers, I still have the same prayers that I pray every day.  Sometimes I worry that I sound like a broken record* to God, but I am reminded of The Parable of the Persistent Widow (Luke 18:1-8).

Here are 3 of my daily prayers:

1.  God speak through me.  I say this prayer EVERY DAY and especially on Sunday mornings from 6-9AM and during (I’m not always singing.) and between each service.  As many of you know, public speaking is a weakness in my life that God is using to display His power (2 Corinthians 12:9).  I am recently realizing (new revelation) that the reason God has me speak so often is so I will keep depending on Him.

2.  I pray daily for my kids to walk with God for a lifetime and for their future spouses.  I know that this is two prayers in one, but they go hand in hand.  If they don’t marry a godly spouse, they will not walk with God for a lifetime.  Who they marry is the 2nd biggest decision of their lives.  On a side note, being a parent is one of the hardest callings in life.  Can I get an Amen?

3. Wisdom beyond my years.  For the last 20 or so years that I have been in full-time ministry, I have prayed for wisdom beyond my years.  It seemed more appropriate when I was younger, but it still applies.  Isn’t this the prayer that Solomon prayed?  God promises that if we lack wisdom, we can ask Him and He will give it to us (James 1:5).  Well, I am seriously lacking in wisdom, so I ask God for it often.

What are your top prayer requests?  What prayers do you pray for daily?  What prayers do you have on repeat?

I would be curious to know.  You might influence “praylist”.  So let’s hear it.

* A record is round, made of vinyl, and looks like a thin frisbee or small pizza.  Old people used to use them to listen to music (I.e. MP3).  You would play it on a record player or a turntable.  When the record got scratched, it would play the same music over and over again.  And on some heavy metal band’s records, if you played them backwards they supposedly had Satanic messages (or at least this is what the super-legalistic kids in my youth group told me.)

  1. I always think I sound like a broken record during my morning prayer. I try to use different words and switch the order up, but it still sounds the same to me. It’s good to know I’m not the only one.
Some of my daily prayers are a baby for me and my wife, that my kids make good decisions, Valley Town Church and to be a good leader of my family.

    • Doug, thank you for sharing your daily prayer requests. I will be praying with you for God to bless you and Kelly with a baby. I talked with Ben this week. God is doing incredible things with Valley Town. They will be encouraged to know that you pray for them daily.

  2. I pray Lord let me see people the way you see them.
Help me to hear your voice if you ask me to get involved with them.
Give me boldness to act on what you ask me to say or do in response to your leading.
