Proper Motivation for Ministry (Part 1)

What motivates you to serve God?

What is the proper motivation:

…to plant a church in Vermont?

…to serve on the parking team, cleaning team, or prayer team?

…to go on a mission trip?

…to give generously?

…to invest your life in children, students or a small group?

First and foremost, the right motivation to serve God is a genuine love for God.  I shared this passage (2 Corinthinas 5:14-21) Easter Sunday, but I did not have time to focus on the first couple of verses:

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

We live our lives for God.  We serve God, because we are compelled by His unconditional love for us.  It’s pretty simply.  He laid His life down for me, so I am now living my life for Him.  The is my #1 motivation for planting/pastoring Graystone Church and serving God in full-time ministry.  I love Him.  I owe my life to Him.  My eternity rests in His hands.  I cannot help but give Him 100% of my life.

A love for God is our #1 motivation to serve Him.  If our motives for ministry (paid or volunteer) are pure, then this will help us serve God for the long haul.  Check back tomorrow for “Proper Motivation for Ministry (Part 2).
