Is God calling you to adopt?

Ken and Tatum Strickland

One source says that there are 143 million orphans worldwide.  God is calling several families at Graystone Church to adopt.  I am so excited about this, and I know it brings joy to God, our Heavenly Father.

Last week, after 3 trips to Russia and several months of prayer and paper work, Ken and Terri Strickland, who are the proud parents of 5 biological kids of their own, adopted Tatum.  She is a beautiful little Russian girl, and God has blessed her with a new wonderful Christian family.  The Stricklands will participate in our Parent Child Dedication on Mother’s Day, May 8.  PRAISE GOD!

The Bible is clear that Christians and the church have a responsibility to care for orphans.  There is no greater way to meet the needs of a homeless child than to adopt him or her into a loving Christian family.  And since God is calling several families at Graystone to adopt, we have to ask ourselves, “What is the church’s role?”  God is impressing on me the need for our church as a whole and for individual members of Graystone to help these families adopt, love and care for orphaned children.

What role will you play? Maybe God would lead you and your family to adopt a child?  Maybe God wants you to give your time, talents or resources to help another family adopt and care for a child?  Are you willing to pray about it and see where God’s spirit leads?

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27

  1. Love it!!! She’s so stinkin’ cute too!!

I figure if God will adopt me, little ‘ole me, into His family….the least I can do is adopt one of His fatherless babes.

  2. Ken and Terri – congratulations. I’m happy for you and your family. This is really fantastic. I love our church family and what they are doing. Every week someone at Graystone amazes me – I think its really God I’m amazed with in allowing us to be a part of His plan.

  3. Congratulations Terri and Ken! I know that you are soooo happy to finally have your daughter home! The Church Family at Graystone are so excited that we will be a part in sharing the love of Jesus with your new daughter, Tatum! Yes, no matter how young or old we are in someway God can use us to help the orphans, as you said Jonathan, we need to pray for His will in what we need to do?
