Write a Blurb Contest

Regularly on my blog, I have “create a caption contests” in regards to pictures that I find humorous or interesting.  Well, I think the below video is interesting, funny and full of spiritual meaning. I would love to hear your insights and comments.

So, let’s have a “write a blurb contest”.  I’m not sure why I have to turn everything into a competition. But I do.

Here’s the contest:

In 100 words or less, write a caption or blurb based on the Orange Tree Video.   Your “blurb” can be humorous, random, spiritual or simply a Bible verse.  The winning blurb will be picked subjectively by me on Thursday, and I will buy the winner a Simply Love T-shirt.  Good luck and have fun.

  1. In this video I find myself asking, What do people see in me? The people that know me and that don’t know me. Is it evident that I belong to GOD and that they see the Fruit of the Spirit in and coming out of me daily? If GOD were to ask them, Who sees me in Chad, What evidence could they give? What would they say? Would they say I’m an Ups Driver, funny, angry, impatient, evil snake, negative, trash talking, bitter, all around nice worldly guy, etc. Or the opposite of that which is the Fruit of the Spirit, Love, Joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, etc. “The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. If that’s true, are you a Red Delicious(sweet) or a Granny Smith (Sour and Tart)?

      • I’ve heard it said: “If being a Christian was a crime, would they find enough evidence to sentence you?”

[This is just a comment on Chad’s comment -I guess a comment’s comment; and not intended for the contest]

    • Maybe an explanation is in order, sense we cannot read between the lines and determine the spiritual wisdom of the Mac vs. the IBM. No matter how hard the PC tries, its not the Mac, it doesn’t have the same operating system, it is less efficient, and the Windows look is designed to “look like a Mac” but it clearly is not. Heath is the PC wanting to be the Mac, thinking he is the Mac.

No matter how hard we try to be a Christian we cannot be, in and of our own merit. We can dress like one, carry a Bible, and even convince ourselves that we are one. But we are not. We must have the DNA and operating system of our Creator. We must have the Holy Spirit breathed in us, our DNA totally new, and a completely different operating system.

And that Mac doesn’t fall far from the Apple tree.

  2. In an effort to win a contest only one person has entered, I an going with a spiritual blurb regarding spiritual gifts. I am also going to ignore the 100 word limit, which may automatically disqualify me.

We can not advance in anything unless we are willing to understand where we are now, or who we are now. When you get older, you get a baseline physical. The purpose is it gives the physician something to compare future test results to. When we start an exercise/diet program it is recommended to do an evaluation to see which program/diet will benefit you the most. Too often we want to dive straight in doing what we THINK is right.

Without fist doing a self examination, we can waste a lot of time and effort going in the wrong direction.

Heath didn’t know who or what he was in this video, you cannot produce apples if you were intended to produce oranges, no matter how hard you try. So it is true with our spiritual gifts. If we all took the time to learn what our gifts were and use them we would have an enormous impact on God’s Kingdom.

    • Adam, you are over 100 words but I will let you slide. Right now, it’s a coin toss between you and Chad. And I must say that I am disappointed by Luis and Dale’s lack of effort. I had high hopes for both of them.

  3. And for the contest:

“Any self-taped-up fruit on a PC (Pretend Christian) is a just an app-earance. The real ‘apples’ are found only in MAC’s (Men Abiding in Christ) and those are really app-ealing!”

    • Awesome Luis! So if I claim to be a MAC (Man Abiding in Christ) and don’t want to be a PC (Pretend Christian) IPod (I Pluck Oranges Daily) from my tree and throw them away. But, I don’t want to grow complacent so IPad (I Plant Apples Daily). So then I might become a MAC-PRO ( Man Abiding in Christ Plucking Rotten Oranges). Ipad because before you know it there’s no FLASH (Fruit Like Apples Satisfying Hunger) and you might start thinking and acting like a PC ….Amen Brother

      • 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'” Matthew 7:21-23

  4. “So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.” Matthew 7:17-20

  5. He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered. Proverbs 28:26

If we keep believing we are what we aren’t and don’t open our hearts and minds to the Holy Spirit guiding us we will never be able to use the Fruits of the Spirit the Lord has blessed us with and walk wisely.

  6. To know him we must stay in the MAC-BOOK, read it and app-ly it believing in the truth in our hearts thus we produce fruit of him and he will know us by it. AND WE WILL KNOW HIM!

  7. On my own, ITUNE the orange tree out as much as I can. But to hold me accountable, IPHONE one of my MAC brothers in Christ to help me. Ultimately I rely on my MAC Daddy.

  8. Let me just say, I don’t like to lose, but Luis there’s know doubt about it, you had the HOLY SPIRIT with you when you wrote that comment. And I think that’s cheating. But I can’t say much to that, I didn’t read the Rules carefully. CONGRATS you are a RED Delicious MAC!
