In this season of ministry, where is your mission field? Where is God calling you to sow the seeds of the gospel (Mark 4:1-20)? For me, it is my two ball teams. I coach Julia’s softball team and Joelan’s baseball team. Every Spring God brings new families into our lives to share the good news of Jesus Christ. I also have ministry partners. On both teams, my assistant coaches and/or team moms, go to Graystone Church, so together we are trying to reach out to the 10 other families on our teams.
But my mission field is not limited to my two teams. I am actually trying to reach out to each of our leagues. Julia plays in softball majors (7 teams of 11-12 yr old girls) and Joelan plays in baseball pony (6 teams of 13-14 yr old boys). So, my goal is not to take advantage of other coaches in the draft, win at all costs, or make sure my kids make the all star team. No, my goal is to be a light for Jesus Christ at the ball park. I want players, parents, siblings and coaches to see my good deeds, so that they will one day glorify God in Heaven (Matthew 5:16).
If you’re a Christian coach, then view your team as a mission field. Begin praying by name for each family on your team and plan to invite them to Jersey Day at Graystone Church on May 15. Our purpose as coaches in not to win championships but to win people for Jesus Christ.
I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” John 4:35
