Rededicate Your Kids to God

On Sunday at Graystone Church, 23 kids were dedicated by their parents to the Lord.  This is such a special occasion for each of these families, and I am proud of them for committing to raise their kids in a Christian home and in the local church.  As a church family, our commitment is to pray for, teach, and live as an example for these children.  Some of the first kids who were dedicated at Graystone Church have already committed their lives to Christ and been baptized.  Pretty AMAZING!

As the parents were dedicating their children Sunday, it reminded me of my own 3 kids and the commitment Jennifer and I made when we dedicated each of them to God.  I was thinking today, when another parent is dedicating their son/daughter to God, it is a great opportunity for us to rededicate our kids to God.  So, that’s what I would like to encourage all the parents to do.  Set aside some time to get together with your spouse, thank God for your kids, recite the pledge, and pray for God to give you the wisdom, courage and strength you need to raise your kids to know God and make God known.

The Parent Child Dedication Pledge

Parents–in committing your children to the Lord, do you promise in dependence upon the Spirit to teach your children the ways of the Lord to acknowledge the Lord as the head of your home to live as examples for Christian living before your children and most of all, to keep seeking the Lord’s best for your family for the rest of your lives?

Response:  We/I do.

“Hannah said to (Eli), ‘Excuse me, sir. Do you remember me?  I am the woman you saw standing here, praying to the Lord.  I asked for this child, and he gave me what I asked for.  So I am dedicating him to the Lord.  As long as he lives, he will belong to the Lord.’  Then they worshipped the Lord there.”  1 Samuel 1:26-28
