Wow, after reading Lenny’s passionate rant concerning kid sports (see comments under post: Participation Trophies…every coach should read this), I feel like scum of the earth making fun of participation trophies. All joking aside, I do think there is a time and place for participation trophies. The above picture is Joelan’s first trophy for playing soccer when he was 4 years old. He slept with it for a week.
If truth be told, I am not as competitive as I claim to be (my bark is bigger than my bite), especially when it comes to kid sports. Our family plays kid sports for all the reasons that Lenny mentioned in his comment. If you promise not the tell anyone, let me share a little secret with you: I do not coach kid sports to win games or championships but to win souls for Jesus Christ.
With all that said, let me be perfectly clear, I do “play to win” and I am “In it to win it!”.
