Tyler is in training to become a great staff husband.

There are definitely more than 99 kids at Sports Camp.  Actually, with limiting the age group to completed K-5th grade, we have a manageable number of kids to minister to this Sports Camp.  This year has been so well led and organized.  And every night I am blown away by our incredible staff, staff spouses, and amazing volunteers.  Graystone is a church full of servant leaders (Mark 10:45).

Tonight during the teaching time the gospel will be clearly presented and the older elementary kids will have an opportunity to commit their lives to Jesus Christ.  Small Group Leaders will follow up with each child in his/her group and make sure they understand the gospel. Let’s pray for the ONE in each small group.  In fact, let’s be bold and pray all day today for DOZENS of kids’ lives to be changed for all eternity.

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:7

Motorcycle Jump from Sports Camp 2011

Motorcycle Jump from Sports Camp 2011

Katie, Brie, Carolyn, our Graystone staff, and our entire Graystone Kids Team have been working really hard to get ready for Sports Camp 2014.  It is only 3 days away!  Here are 5 Things you should know:

1. There are already more kids preregistered for Sports Camp this year than ever. PRAISE GOD!

2. We need as many volunteers as possible on Sunday at 1:30PM to get the Ozora Campus ready for Sports Camp.   We specifically need men to move furniture and line the fields.   There will be something for EVERYONE to do.

3. We need coaches to volunteer for baseball, softball and art. This is a great opportunity for men to step up and serve. If you have a high school student who plays one of these sports, he/she would be perfect.

4. Sports Camp is one of my favorite weeks of the year at Graystone because EVERYONE is serving each night, and it’s a great opportunity to fellowship and get to know each other. I’m really looking forward to meeting many new Graystone folks and making new friends. If you are looking to get connected at Graystone, there is no better way to do it than to volunteer to serve at Sports Camp.

5. Let’s pray together and trust God to change dozens of elementary kids’ lives for all eternity. This is what Sports Camp is all about. And God is gracious enough to allow each of us an opportunity to be a part of it.

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” Matthew 18:19

One over Ninetynine

I talked with a young couple at church yesterday. It was the second time we have spoken. They wanted me to meet their 2 year old son. They said their son had a hard time going into the Graystone Kids area at first, but now he loves it.

The young dad said they’ve been coming to Graystone as a family since the Unhappily Ever After series. He said it’s the first time he has been to church in over 15 years. I asked him what brought him back to church. His wife answered and said that they were invited by friends who are members of Graystone.

She said she came by herself for the first time on Vision Sunday when I shared about the ONE. She said her husband was her ONE, and God answered her prayer really fast. PRAISE GOD!

Graystone Elders praying for Alan

Graystone Elders praying for Alan

Last night, the elders of Graystone Church had the honor to affirm God’s call on Alan Smith’s life and officially ordain him as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Alan has a tremendous heart for God and people. And I can’t wait to see all God does in and through Alan’s ministry.

Alan and Allison are doing an incredible job leading the Student Ministry of Graystone Church. In fact, our Student Ministry has grown over 50% since Alan became our Student Pastor. Alan and Allison are constantly reaching out to middle school and high school kids in our community. They are great about visiting the kids at school and supporting them at their various sporting events and other activities. Alan and Allison are truly pouring their lives and hearts into our kids. And I hope and pray that they are a part of the Graystone Team for many, many years.

Next time you see Alan, please congratulate him on his ordination. And let’s all tell Alan and Allison how thankful we are for them and how much they mean to us. I know God is going to continue to use them to change student’s lives for all eternity.

Almost every day for the past 20 years, I have prayed the same prayer…

“Lord, give me wisdom beyond my years.”

I pray this prayer daily in my personal prayer time. I pray it at the beginning of every leadership team meeting. I pray it when I have big decisions to make.

Sometimes, God will lead me to make a decision that seems a bit contrarian. God’s ways are so much higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). If you think about it, it’s one of the smartest prayers we can pray.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” James 1:5
