Some folks think that a church never truly “arrives” until they have a church marquee sign. Click here to read my thoughts on Graystone having one of these. I guess I’m a LITTLE WEIRD, but I like to read what churches put on their marquee. Here is one of my recent favs:
Friday Favs: Church Marquee Signs
March 12, 2010 by Jonathan

I’ve never been a fan of these signs. Nothing wrong with letting people know that you’re a church, but my bet is these clever little cliches have probably kept more people from coming than DRAWING them in. Please….I’ve never heard anyone say, “We got up this morning and drove around until we saw your sign and were DRAWN in.”
Just like a website. You’re information and flair may tell folks something about your church, but it’s not necessarily an invitation.
That being said, my first contact to Graystone was the website, followed up by people I found out belonged there. Also, line on the sign above is as good as I’ve seen.
Please excuse my lack of proof reading before I hit submit.
My experience with this, is when you purchase a sign, you should make sure the pastor’s name is easily removable, or on a separate part of the sign, in that way you do not have to purchase a new sign.
But I certainly do not have a problem with the Howe’s House. Not to infer you are God, or that He needs a house.
Love you man.
Yeah, I don’t I think our sign will be a marquee and I don’t think it will have my name on it. If someone wants to donate over one million dollars to the building, I will gladly put their name on the sign, but it will need to be easily removed.
I think someone should collect these saying and pictures from around the country and make a coffee table book out of church marquees. I’d read it. Other than that, I’m not sure they serve much more of a purpose. The churches that make impactful use of them are few and far between.
